Became the home of creatures that could run and swim and fly;
And at the end of daylight, when the stars came out to play,
They heard the dreamy verses of The First Lullaby.
And all the sleeping creatures were at peace beneath the sky,
As night fell and the rivers sang to breezes blowing by;
And if you listen carefully, when twilight's at its end,
You'll hear the gentle verses of The First Lullaby.
All things that bud and blossom and all those who sleep and dream
Began to listen quietly to the river and the stream,
That played a simple melody to bring them gentle sleep,
And all the newborn creatures rested in that peaceful scene.

As night fell and the rivers sang to breezes blowing by;

You'll hear the gentle verses of The First Lullaby.
And then the wind began to blow so softly through the trees,
And leaves and needles played their song upon the evening breeze;
And wind and streams in symphony broadcast their lullaby
To all the earth, to land and lakes, and dark and peaceful seas.

About This Lullaby
The First Lullaby was written one winter afternoon in 2002 when I began thinking about how peaceful it must have been when the world was first created, before anything other than the brilliant beauty and calm quiet of the sparkling stars existed in the night; when the peace and enchanting loveliness that were intended for the world were newborn, as well as its creatures; when lullabies filled the air. A beautiful image of the newborn beings under the magnificent night sky filled my mind, and a lullaby was born.I hope this children's song helps you to hear the lullabies that are whispered in the wind, that faintly murmur in the cool night air, that play upon the leaves of the trees, and that sing in the brooks and streams as they flow gently by their mossy banks. The lullabies are still here for us to hear, just as they were on that entirely lovely first night of the creation of the world. Sweet lullaby dreams to you--Miria
