As a chemistry major in college, I began to be aware of the reactions between chemicals in smog and oxygen which deplete the air's oxygen levels, but only comparatively recently have I been more and more aware of the many other factors which contribute to this phenomenon.

It became obvious to me that I could give support to any cause that I might choose, but that cause would be meaningless if there were not enough oxygen in the air to support life. I have come to believe there is indeed cause for great concern, but still I feel that if enough people act now, a crisis that could turn out to be of unthinkable proportions can be averted.

The research that I have done has assured me that I am not alone in my concern, and has indicated that all steps possible need to be taken in the near future to deal with this situation. The researchers with whom I have been in touch who have studied this phenomenon in depth all feel that once the crisis begins, it will be too late to implement remedies, and that prevention is the only option. Some researchers believe that this oxygen crisis may occur in the near future. My intention is not to frighten people, but to call attention to a very important matter to which not many people seem to be paying enough attention, as the oxygen levels seem to be continuing to decline.
